Austria ski holidays are perfect for great resorts, tree lined slopes and a good range of accommodation. Austria is the birthplace of modern skiing and has always been popular with British skiers thanks to the fantastic choice of resorts. With small and limited resorts ideal for beginners to The Alberg ski region including Lech and St. Anton, a favourite with the international jet set and royalty.
The ski resorts of Austria are well served by Innsbruck and Salzburg airports which offer a number of connections to all over the UK. The Ski Welt regions is a place many first timers discover with the largest interconnected ski area in Austria. The lively and popular resort of Soll is the favourite of British skiiers and is linked to Ellmau, Scheffau and Westendorf by 279km of ski pistes. Westendorf is also linked to the Kitzbühel ski area by a gondola. Kitzbühel and Kirchberg offer an impressive ski area of 170km with some challenging intermediate runs. The wider Kitzbüheler Alps area has a huge 1088km of further skiing available.
Another firm favourite is the resort of Mayrhofen, one of Austria's best known resorts with high altitude skiing and guaranteed snow it always proves popular. There is 133km of local slopes and the whole area on the Zillertal Superskipass includes a ski area of over 650km. Saalbach and Hinterglemm offers some fantastic challenging skiing and have seen a lot of investment in recent years.
Austria - Snow sure resorts
Despite being fairly low compared to other Alpine ski areas Austria has a good snow record and there are some high altitude resorts such as Obergurgl, Obertauern, Galtür and Kaprun all of which offer skiing late into the season. Austria is renowned for its Apres-ski and has some great lively resorts and plenty of great restaurants to explore.
