Olu Deniz is in a stunning setting and the home of the famous Blue Lagoon that Turkey holiday brochures have had on the front cover for many years. It is possibly the most photographed beach in the Med!
The Blue Lagoon of Olu Deniz (translated as “Dead Sea”) is at the heart of a beautiful nature reserve that attracts people from all over the world to see and photograph its beauty. The water is a beautiful turquoise and aquamarine colour thanks to the “sand” that is really tiny white pebbles which explains the crystal clear waters. Green hillsides roll down to the beautiful shore and offer stunning scenery in which it is a photographer’s heaven.
Olu Deniz Holidays
Olu Deniz Holidays are popular with people who like a beach based relaxing holiday. The town has a number of low key bar and restaurants that offer something for all tastes. The area is a protected national park so you will not find any high rise or over developed areas. The lagoon has a small admission fee to cover the costs of protecting the area.
Many of the hotels in Olu Deniz have roof top garden-restaurants offering a nice view whilst enjoying your food. There are a couple of lively music bars near the beach, however for a much wider choice of nightlife the nearby town of Fethiye or resort of Hisaronu offer up much more choice. .
Whilst the main lagoon area is great for beach lovers there is also the popular Belcekis Beach that has a wide sand/shingle beach that goes on for miles so there is plenty of space for everyone. The centre of Olu Deniz has a small selection of smart boutiques, shops and stalls, however for more choice a visit to nearby Fethiye (the regional capital) is a must. .
Holidays in Olu Deniz are a great place for exploring local sites. The stunning Saklikent Gorge is just a short drive away, it is a natural gorge that has formed over thousands of years and offers a cool haven away from the heat of the sun. There is also an abandoned Greek village called Kayakoy, with thousands of uninhabited houses that were left when armies invaded. Hikers love this area and are drawn to the five hundred kilometres long Lycian Way. For those that love the fresh sea air, head out on a boat trip or dive boat which offers a perfect opportunity to explore this beautiful part of the world and its under water paradise. .
