With beautiful stretches of golden sand beaches and clear waters, it is easy to see why the Turkish resort of Altinkum has become a firm favourite with British holidaymakers. The resort has grown quickly over the years and offers a fantastic base for a seaside holiday in Turkey. Altinkum translates in to Turkish as “Golden Sands”. The resort stretches from a small harbour at one end to a rocky headland at the other end of the bay. There are beautiful beaches that offer over one kilometre of golden sands, where you can laze happily and enjoy soaking up the sun.
Holidays in Altinkum are extremely popular with tourists of all ages and the three sandy beaches called Main Beach, Second Beach and Third Beach, mean you will never be far away from a relaxing spot to get away from it all. Main Beach has plenty of sun loungers and a wide choice of water sports. It is backed by a fabulous promenade that runs all the way along and is lined with shops, stalls, bars and restaurants. Second Beach is a quieter beach that is popular with couples looking to avoid the busier beach and Third Beach is close to the marina. The beaches are perfect for families as they offer gorgeous soft golden sand which is perfect for enjoying the warm sunshine, refreshed by the cool sea breeze, and they slope gently into the Aegean Sea.
Altinkum Holidays – Things to do
Whilst Altinkum holidays are not really renowned for lively nights, nightlife in Altinkum can be quite lively especially around bar street and the two main Square's in high season. There is a good choice of bars, cafés, and restaurants throughout the resort, offering something for all tastes including traditional Turkish, European and Oriental. The charming marina, with a good choice of places to eat and drink is perfect for a more laid back evening.
The shops and stalls of Altinkum sell everything that you can find in most tourist resorts of Turkey. Handmade crafts such as keyrings and jewellery are on sale at stalls and shops on the promenade, whilst clothing such as t-shirts and shorts or spices are popular in the market and shops of the resorts including Dolphin Square in the centre of the town. Leather goods also offer excellent value for money compared to UK prices.
If you like history, there is plenty to see in the Altinkum area, try a boat trip and explore the local area. Full day excursions are available to Ephesus, one of the wonders of the ancient world or the popular natural wonder of Pammukale. Much closer to the resort is the Temple of Apollo at Didyma which is around 4kms away and is home to the infamous snake adorned head of Medusa. A trip to the huge market at Kusadasi is a good day for shoppers, or for those looking to explore the cosmopolitan cruise port.
