The beautiful resort of Mahdia is a relatively unknown resort situated to the south of Monastir on a gorgeous stretch of the Tunisian coastline. The hotels are mainly situated in the tourist area which
is around four miles to the north of the centre and is lovely and peaceful. For the British market a holiday in Mahdia is a pretty new destination just waiting to be discovered.
The original city of Mahdia was once the capital of Tunisia and it was once the most important city in the whole region of north Africa, the entrance to the old town (Medina) is through a 16 th century
gate. There is plenty of historical sites to see in the area including an impressively well preserved fort and the grand mosque. The weekly market is still a popular draw with locals and tourists where you will find everything from silks to spice to souvenirs, everything under the sun in one place.

The beautiful almost white sandy beaches are perfect for a beach based holidays and the majority of the hotels in this area are set on the seafront. The low key nightlife is mainly hotel based; however there is a small selection of restaurants in the town. Some of the larger hotels have discos but if you are looking to party until dawn you are in the wrong place.
Although Tunisia holidays tend to be popular with golfers, Mahdia does not have much to offer, however the nearest courses are in Monastir and Port El Kantaoui, giving you the chance to tee off
and have a day out.
