Cape Point is actually the north eastern part of the town of Bakau. It is situated around eight miles from Banjul, the capital of The Gambia. Blessed with a beautiful beach this resort offers an oasis of calm and is perfect for a quiet holiday in this beautiful West African country.
The beach is one of the widest in the Gambia and has gorgeous white sands that are washed by the waters of the Atlantic. In the 1990’s the beach had eroded badly so sands were imported from the Sahara to replenish the beach and it has never looked back. The authorities have added a series of concrete blacks offshore to stop the erosion and it has never looked back. A small number of fruit and juice sellers are on hand to give you a tasty tropical snack or drink and there are a small number of sun loungers for hire but other than that it is a beautiful place to just chill and enjoy the Gambian sunshine.
There are just a small handful of hotels in Cape Point that fringe the beach and they range from small and friendly to all inclusive resorts. They are perfect for a relaxing holiday in Cape Point thanks to the peaceful surroundings. Nightlife in the area is low key and mainly centred around the hotels, some of which offer occasional entertainment. A fifteen minute drive by taxi will take you to the Senegambia Strip in Kololi where there is much more choices of restaurants and many bars that play live music and open until late into the night.
Holidays to Cape Point – Experience real Gambia
The town of Bakau has a truly African feel where the daily market is the main meeting place for locals and it is a typical busy and noisy place, an ideal spot to experience real Gambia. Also in Bakau is the Katchikally Crocodile Pool where the museum offers which is an interesting place to learn about local history and also the chance to see real crocs and for the most brave you can actually touch a live one! Excursions to Lamin Lodge in the River Gambia basin and Banjul are also popular ways to spend a day out.
