The popular nightspots include Mambo Club and the famous Tropicana Cabaret show. Cabaret Continental is a top choice for locals and tourists alike and the unique La Cueva del Pirata, that is situated in a cave, offers some cabaret-style dancing performances, and aftwerwards there is the chance to dance the night away when it becomes a disco.
Excursions are on offer to Josone National Park as well as the Caves of Saturno that are home to some beautiful natural stalagmite formations and lagoons in which you can bathe. The Ambrisio Cave has some ancient cave drawings inside and is home to a bat colony. Trips to Havana are also widely available and is well worth a visit being so nearby.
There are plenty of activities and excursions in the vicinity. Visitors can browse American-style shopping complexes or haggle over arts and handicrafts at the local markets. San Ambrosio Cave is well worth a visit, with its ancient paintings, or Las Salinas, an old salt mine - once a major source of income for the area during colonial times. The city of Matanzas offers a collection of archaeological sites, including the Cueva de Bellamar. Golf-enthusiasts can practise their game on the 18-hole Varadero Golf Course.
