The charming resort of Rethymnon is a typically Cretan town on the northern coast of Crete. The quaint harbour with its selection of al fresco restaurants and tavernas is a good spot to enjoy a meal or cooling drink whilst watching people go about their daily activities. The old town has an imposing Venetian fortress and is a maze of picturesque winding streets that have old buildings with wooden balconies over hanging above, with influences from Turkish and Venetian architecture. Cafes, restaurants and craft stalls line the streets selling local wares such as pottery, woodcarvings and tourist souvenirs.
Beach holidays in Rethymnon are ever popular thanks in large to the amazing beach, as one of the longest on Crete you will have no problem finding a nice spot to relax in. Hotel and apartments line the beach offering lovely views over the sands to the beautiful sea. Take a dip in the clear waters to escape the heat of the day or just lie back enjoying the hot summer sun.
After a day on the sand it’s time to head out for the night and try one of the many fish restaurants with a tasty choice of fresh seafood around the harbour area or a traditional taverna serving something for all tastes including traditional Greek dishes.
