The wide beautiful beach is the main focal point of the resort of Kotu in The Gambia. The golden sands stretch far into the distance and within minutes of leaving the main hotel area you can have your own deserted piece of paradise. There are a number of beach bars that offer sun loungers free if you purchase a drink. Most of the beach bars serve snacks during the day and are a good alternative to the hotels with lower prices.
Kotu is a good choice for a family holiday in Gambia as it is a lot quieter than Kololi and the beach is much bigger. The resort has a small selection of bars and restaurants which offer both African and international cuisine. The Captains Table is a popular choice for a nice meal and serves a wide range of international cuisine that suits all tastes. For a wider range of shops bars and restaurants many people head to Kololi which is around a five minute taxi drive away.

There are a couple of mini market shops that serve everything from crisps to mobile phone cards and are reasonable in price. The Kotu Craft Market has a good range of handmade crafts including drums, wood carvings and handmade clothing. Be sure to barter with the stall holders to pick up a bargain!
The resort of Kotu is a really good choice for birdwatchers looking to holiday in the Gambia as there are many spots that have good bird watching opportunities and many return every year thanks to the huge variety of birds. For the more sporty the Fajara Golf Course is just a short walk along the beach and a round is pretty reasonable in price by European standards.
