Croatia holidays are gaining in popularity every year thanks to the fantastic choice of resorts, activities and accessibility from local UK airports. Croatia sits on the coastline of the beautiful crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea and offers a warm welcome to visitors both old and new. There are lots of ancient buildings and sites, great beaches, islands, water sports, green countryside and rolling hills to explore.
A popular way of getting around during your holiday in Croatia is to jump on a water taxi that runs along the scenic coastal routes from town to town. As you sail along the coast you are treated to wonderful views of green hills that run right down to the water's edge and with over a thousand miles of shoreline there are thousands of tiny Croatian islands that sit in the gorgeous sapphire sea. During the summer local concerts draw the locals to ancient amphitheatres.
Five reasons to have a holiday in Croatia

Holidays in Croatia - All about the stunning coastline
Croatia is famous for its sparkling sea and off its mainland are over a thousand pretty islands which are great for exploring or even better for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. On the mainland there are plenty of rocky bays with bathing platforms and pebble beaches, however sandy bays are few and far between. One thing they have in common is the beautiful sea with stunning clarity allowing you to see to the depths below. Fishing ports and villages are scattered along this stunning coastline and have changed very little over the years, meaning wherever you eat you can be assured of the seafood being very fresh. In the hills and mountains behind the coastline you can enjoy being off the beaten track and enjoy a warm welcome from the locals.
Croatia Holidays - Food & Drink
The cuisine in Croatia is based on a hugely varied range of seafood dishes served with fresh vegetables and cooked Mediterranean style in olive oil. It is said by locals that there are over four hundred types of fish species live in the waters of Croatia so there is always plenty of choice on the menu as well as squid and shellfish such as lobster and crab. A popular local delicacy is Brodet, a mixed fish stew served with rice and always goes down well. If fish is not your thing there is a large Italian influence with inexpensive options such as pasta or pizza widely available. Meat dishes are produced from free range animals that live in the green hilly countryside and popular dishes include Raznjici – pork kebabs, Cevapcici – a Parma ham equivalent, served as a starter with local cheese in oil, Cevapcici – little rissoles of beef, onion and herbs. There are plenty of options too for vegetarians with Manistra od bobica - a vegetarian soup of beans and maize, a popular choice with locals.
Croatia is known for its wines and some of the best local wines include (Reds) Dingac, Postup and Kastellet, (Whites) Posip and Grk from Korcula island and Bogdanusa and Zlatan Otuk from Hvar. If you opt for carafe wines you’ll find the reds are more usually more reliably good than the whites.
Out and About in Croatia
In the small towns and villages of Croatia you will find a choice of local craft stalls and shops selling lace, leather goods, embroidered table linens, wood-carvings and colourful handmade ceramics. The larger towns such as Dubrovnik and Split have a wider choice of shops selling allsorts including some international brands. The ancient walls of Dubrovnik offer a trip back into the past and there are many old medieval sites to see. Although sandy beaches are rare in Croatia, the majority of them are fine shingle including the well known Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) on the island of Brac – which points like a finger into the Adriatic Sea. Car hire is a great way of getting to see this beautiful country and there are many scenic routes that are popular with tourists.
