Kololi is the liveliest holiday resort in The Gambia, locals tend to refer to it as Senegambia. There are a number of lively music bars which have live African bands as well as a couple of European style nightclubs / discos that offer dancing until the early hours.
There is a large selection of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets infact there is around thirty. You can get traditional African food or international including Western, Chinese, Indian and Lebanese. Ali Baba’s garden is popular as they have a lovely garden area and a live band play reggae music whilst you have your meal. The Paradiso restaurant serves excellent pizza's and steaks and is always busy. Another popular restaurant is Scala which is family run and has an excellent menu with excellent quality food and reasonable prices, it is a favourite of many of the staff here at JLM Travel!
After your evening meal it is worth experiencing some real African music at one of the popular music bars. Bar One has resident bands that play every night and has a great position on the strip and proves very popular with tourists and locals alike. The newly opened Havana Bar has quickly established itself and Paparatzi is a Euro style disco and plays all the latest hits from the top 40. If anyone fancies a flutter there are two casinos in Kololi now too.
Kololi Holiday Bargains
The beach at Kololi has suffered from erosion over the years and varies in width but most areas of the beach outside hotels have sun loungers. If you prefer a larger and wider beach head for either Kotu where there are a number of beach bars that provide you with free sun loungers or for a relaxing day out the beach at Bijilo is very quiet, both can be reached within five minutes from Kololi.
The Senegambia Craft Market offers a wide selection of handmade African goods including jewellery, African drums and clothing as well as handmade crafts. There are banks and shops for all your needs in Kololi too. The Bijilo Forest backs onto the resort and is home to a wide range of wildlife including monkies and a huge range of different bird species and is particularly popular with bird spotters. Holidays in Gambia are available from Gatwick during winter and summer, with flights from Birmingham and Manchester from November to April.
