The most popular area of Mexico for British holidaymakers is the Caribbean coastline where there are fantastic soft white sand beaches, warm crystal clear seas and plenty of nightlife for night owls. A holiday to Cancun is the place to party by night and sunbathe by day on the gorgeous white sand beaches. Riviera Maya holidays are more laid back, although Playa Del Carmen has some great beach bars and nightclubs too. Playacar also within the Riviera Maya area is more laid back but close enough to Playa Del Carmen for a great night out.
Many hotels in Mexico offer all inclusive holidays, however, there are a great range of bars and restaurants that serve up classic Mexican fare. Tacos filled with spicy meats and cream or cheese filled tortillas. When on holiday in Mexico, a big plate of chilli con carne is a must! Local beers are legendary, Sol is the most famous and most be enjoyed with a slice of lime and for the more adventurous pure Tequila. The national drink of Mexico comes in gallons no matter where you are you will be offered a shot along with a slice of lemon and salt.
Excursions in the region include Chichen Itza, the capital of the Mayan Empire, you can climb the famous Kukulcan Pyramid or visit the world famous Cenote. If you like the water, try the swimming with dolphins or the jungle speed boats, ride the Caribbean waves and snorkel on the reefs.
Cancun is situated on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula and boasts a magnificent 12 mile stretch of white sandy beachfront. The resort is fringed by the Caribbean Sea on one side and a beautiful blue lagoon on the other. There is no resort centre as such, however downtown Cancun has a number of market stalls and shops selling local arts and crafts. Cancun tends to be livelier between late February to mid April and late May to early July, due to the American students holiday times. As well as the usual excursions to Chichen Itza etc, deep sea fishing and diving are very popular on Cancun holidays.
Many people holiday in Cancun year after year as there is such a wide range of activities available. Two centre options can usually be arranged between Cancun and the Riviera Maya area.

Most of the accommodation are good quality all inclusive hotels, the majority of which sit directly on the white sandy beach. The beaches have a backdrop of green trees, giving a feeling of an exotic setting with palm trees swaying in the light breeze.
